Having failed miserably to find any Rowley/Rothlain/Rolle/Rowly/etc, etc; I backtracked to a conversation Tim and I had 2 years ago, whether the surname of my ancestor could be Mac Roghllaigh or some variation. One of the surnames I am most closely related to is MacDermott under FGC5939, more specifically BY20594, possibly Diarmait mac Tadhg Mor Ua Maelruanaidh, 7th king of Moylurg.
I stumbled into this:
There was a branch of the MacDermotts who descended from Diarmaid O’Cruadhlaoch, 4th from Diarmait. According to Patrick Woulfe, it is possible this was corrupted in some regions to “Mac Roghallaigh”.
O’Cruadhlaoch is anglicized “O’Crowley”/”Crowley”
Coincidence?
The only genealogy I can find :
Diarmait (1159) → Cathal Carragh (Mor)(1201)→ Muirgius (1226)→ Diarmaid Midech O’Cruadhlaoch (1287) in Annála Connacht 1287.3 & Bart Jaski chart #66
The majority of this family moved into Cork in the mid 1500's. I have no Crowley DNA matches, and no apparent Mac Roghallaigh matches, so this may be a SCE. Has anyone come across more info on an O’Cruadhlaoch family who:
1. stayed in Connaught
2. is directly related to Mac Dermott
Thanks in advance!

Mike,
Why are you disregarding the Cruffon Ó Rothláin family we previously decided were your ancestors? What you are researching below makes no sense to me.

Absolutely not! Sil Cellach Mac Diarmait O'Rothlain of Cruffon is at the top of the list by miles. I simply found this curious and want to see if there are any connections.
